Hailing from the salty shores of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Joseph Benson has spent the past 15 years enthralled by the bounty of the sea. After soaking up the Jersey Shore's finest seafood for most of his life, he took a leap of faith and landed in Austin, Texas in 2018. Here, he found not only a new culinary playground but also love – his wife and and business partner, Cecily, who shares his passion for fresh, innovative flavors.
Together, they've embarked on a delicious adventure with Nanshuckit. Drawing on his extensive experience in the seafood industry, Chef Joe crafts elevated oyster experiences that are both classic and surprising. He believes in letting the natural flavors of the ocean shine, while adding his own unique touch – a touch honed by years by the Atlantic and now infused with the vibrant spirit of Austin.
When they're not creating culinary masterpieces with bivalves, you might find the Bensons exploring Austin's foodie scene or traveling around the world. But one thing's for sure – his heart (and his palate) will always belong to the sea.
